This year, for the first time, a student competition will conclude the Meet the Circular Economy lecture series. On October 7, teams will showcase their proposals on how companies can effectively tackle sustainability challenges.
We consume more natural resources in the long term than our planet can provide - particularly in industrialized countries. That is why one of the global goals is to produce and consume more sustainably. The circular economy offers a promising solution.
Many companies are already implementing innovative approaches. Throughout the past summer semester, the public lecture series "Meet the Circular Economy - Sustainable Innovation in Practice" featured presentations from companies detailing their sustainability concepts. At the end of each lecture, experts outlined specific challenges. These challenges were then taken up by student teams, who developed innovative solutions. The results of their efforts are now available for all to see. On October 7, starting at 1pm, seven student teams will compete against each other with brief presentations of their proposed strategies. A panel of judges will select the top three teams.
The competition will take place in General Hall at the Super C, Templergraben 57. RWTH junior professor Sandra Venghaus is leading the lecture series and the competition in collaboration with Professor Ulrich Schurr from Forschungszentrum Jülich. The event is supported by the Bioeconomy Science Center (BioSC) research consortium, the Coordination Office of BioökonomieREVIER, and the RWTH Center for Circular Economy (CCE).
Now in its third iteration, the lecture series has provided engaging insights into the opportunities and challenges associated with circular and bio-based processes. Open to students, staff from all faculties, and the general public, the lecture series encouraged discussions around innovative sustainability concepts for the circular economy with companies and businesses.
Please register to attend the public student competition by October 1 via the BioSC website. The event will be held in German.
