"The International Rule of Law - Rise or Decline" project set to continue its collaborative work
No 270/2019 from Sep 20, 2019
The German Research Foundation (DFG) will continue to fund the Berlin Potsdam research group on "The International Rule of Law - Rise or Decline?" for another four years. It assumes that a systemically relevant crisis of international law of unusual proportions is currently taking place that requires a reassessment of the state and the role of the international legal order. In its second funding period, the group will focus on which type of international law we may see emerging. The research group examines the effects of identity politics on international legal values, inquires into the state and development of sources and other structural rules of international law, and analyses challenges for, and the resilience of, international institutions.
The research group brings together international lawyers Heike Krieger (Freie Universität Berlin), Georg Nolte (Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin), and Andreas Zimmermann (University of Potsdam), political scientists Andrew Hurrell (Oxford University) and Andrea Liese (University of Potsdam), and the political philosopher Stefan Gosepath (Freie Universität Berlin). The research group, which was situated at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, will continue its work at Freie Universität Berlin starting October 1, 2019.
