The Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und -prüfung (BAM) is a materials research organization in Germany. Our mission is to ensure safety in technology and chemistry. We perform research and testing in materials
science, materials engineering and chemistry to improve the safety of products and processes. At BAM we do research that matters. Our work covers a broad array of topics in the focus areas of energy, infrastructure, environment, materials, and analytical sciences.

Ihre Aufgaben

Your responsibilities include:
PhD student in a research project funded by the German Research Council (DFG):
  • Development of a novel approach for an ultrasonic method to determine the adhesive strength of layered materials, e.g. adhesive bonds
  • Investigation on the salient physics and development of numerical models for describing special wave propagation phenomena in solids
  • Development of signal processing concepts for the implementation of the measurement procedure
  • Experimental validation of the approach, including laser-based ultrasonic Methods
  • Planning and coordinating the cooperation with university project Partners
  • Supervision of student assistants, as well as Bachelor and Master theses

Ihr Profil

  • University degree (Master/Diplom) in physics, physical engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering or similar
  • Advanced programming knowledge in MATLAB or Python
  • Interest in implementing numerical simulation methods (e.g. FEM)
  • Understanding the wave propagation in solids or specialised in acoustics/ultrasonics
  • Enjoying the exploration of physical Problems
  • Experimental skills and experience in lab work for experimental verification of research results
