Infrarotlicht erreicht uns aus allen Richtungen. Beobachtet man den Himmel mit Infrarotkameras, so schimmert daher der gesamte Himmel im Infrarotlicht. Wissenschaftler/innen haben nun diese schwache kosmische Strahlung mit dem PACS-Instrument an Bord des europäischen Weltraumteleskops Herschel in einzelne Quellen aufgelöst. Diese Ergebnisse versprechen ein besseres Verständnis von der Entwicklung der Milchstraßensysteme.
